Man charged to court for Defrauding 2 men of N1.6m

A man 29, has been charged to court by police on Thursday in a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly duping 2 men of about N1.6 million on false pretext to secure sure traveling visa for them.

Abraham, whose address was not given was facing 4-count charge bordering on obtaining money on false pretext and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that Abraham committed the offences between January and April 2017 at National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to her, the defendant obtained N1.122 million from Ogbonna Ikechukwu on the pretext of procuring visa for football trial abroad.

She said that the defendant also collected N500,000 from Patrick Chimaobi on the pretext of procuring a Dubai Visa for football trial abroad, a total of N1.622 million.

The offences contravened sections 287 and 314(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mr Aro Lambo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Lambo said the surety must be a property owner and should provide evidence of tax payments and address verified as he adjourned hearing in the case until Oct. 17.
