Seven suspects in connection with Offa bloody bank robbery arrested


According to the report from Lawan Ado, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, seven suspects from the cruel and bloody bank robbery attack in Offa, that killed at least 30 people including police officers have been arrested.


The robbers had on Thursday robbed 6 banks which include Union Bank, Ecobank, Guarantee Trust Bank, First Bank, Zenith Banks and Ibolo Micro Finance Bank.


The CP during a media briefing in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital said the number of injured victims had yet to be ascertained as they were receiving treatment in different hospitals.

He stated that the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered a full scale investigation into the attacks.

Ado said, “Seven suspects arrested; one at Igosun road and six others at different locations in Offa. They are helping us in our investigation.

“Seven vehicles abandoned and recovered from the armed robbers. Some rifles were carted away by the robbers.

“The Inspector General of Police has ordered a full investigation and has directed his Intelligence Response Team and others to assist in getting the hoodlums arrested.

“The Command wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims while also wishing the injured quick recovery.”

The Senate President Bukola Saraki condemned the attack as a wicked act perpetrated by cruel individuals in a Facebook post.

“Yesterday’s savage attack on unsuspecting citizens and establishments in Offa LGA that led to significant loss of lives and injury is a despicable act committed by cruel individuals.

“Make no mistake, there will never be any valid grounds or rationale behind such violence that has left many families without their loved ones — and one more community in grief and shock.”

Saraki also called on members of the public to work hand in hand with the government to prevent a reoccurrence of the ugly incident.
